Battery Contact Springs

Battery Contact Springs are the positive contact inside battery compartments of remote controls, flashlights, toys, meters and electronic devices. The cone shape is the key: a conical spring collapses to a very low height, so the compartment stays slim, while the wide travel range keeps contact pressure almost constant from a fresh battery to a nearly empty one. The end coil is closed and flattened into a smooth contact face, which avoids scratching the battery wrapper and keeps resistance low. The springs are made from nickel-plated carbon steel, tin-plated phosphor bronze or stainless steel [TBC], selected by the conductivity and corrosion requirement of the device. Plating thickness is controlled carefully: too little and contact resistance rises over life, too much and the spring loses elasticity after plating. Threaded or machined spring-stud variants (as shown) combine the spring with a threaded base for holders that are screwed into the housing [TBC]. Wire diameter, base diameter, height and contact-end form are customized to your battery holder drawing, and we can produce the matching negative terminal plates in the same order so both contacts arrive together. Contact-resistance and salt-spray tests are performed regularly, and force-deflection is checked per batch. Because holder designs iterate quickly, we supply samples in a few days for development, then hold the production parameters fixed once the design is approved, so every later delivery behaves identically to the samples your engineers validated. Three design notes prevent most battery contact problems. First, force: contact pressure should be high enough to overcome contact resistance but low enough that the user can still insert the cell; we quote a force range at both free and compressed heights so the design can be checked against the compartment tolerance. Second, plating: nickel is the standard choice for alkaline cells, tin-plated phosphor bronze where the lowest resistance is needed, stainless where long shelf life matters more than resistance [TBC]. Third, the stud version - a spring on a threaded base - is screwed into the housing instead of soldered or welded, which simplifies assembly and allows contact replacement in service. Samples in 3 to 5 days keep your holder development moving, and once the design is approved the production parameters are frozen: same wire lot grade, same plating thickness, same heat treatment, so delivery number one hundred matches sample number one.
